Pitch

What are the most common connections in foreign students? Meaning, where do they come from and how do they get here? I would suggest a piece, about three to four section long, looking at a group of students from around the globe. Unlike the First Generation piece that we have going on right now, I think this piece would want to focus more on the alienation of being in a foreign country with a different culture than your own, and what it takes to overcome those differences in order to becoming a  well functioning person in school.

Pitch 10/12

I would be interested in seeing a look at the current affairs of choosing a new WSU president. What is the process like, who are the people applying, and what is the history behind the rules and guidelines for deciding a new one?

Pitch October fifth

When setting up a video, I think it is important to consider how a video will mesh witht the framing on the webpage. For something like the videos we do I class, I think and important feature to consider if the visuals of a video can be transfered into a stqtic design. While motion motion doesn't translate well, grrater overall landscapes and images can be very effective for this sort of thing.

9/28/15 Pitch

Visual idea: Take a video, break it into multiple chapters, along with a written piece going into more detail about the piece. Use the videos as large separating breaks between the writing, and have them auto play when scrolled to. Could work really well with a less hard news piece, and more for a special or a profile on someone interesting.

Pitch 3: Football

UW is cutting a ten year, 41million dollar deal with Alaska Airlines. This would make it the largest deal in US college sports history. With so much money being spent by both WSU and UW, as well as the information revealing that the schools coaches are the two highest paid public employees in Washington state, I believe that this a good of time as ever to examine college sports and funding in the context of the state.

Where will this 41 million dollars go to? How much are the schools making off of football? Is it possible for the schools to pay for college foot ball without these sorts of deals? Is it worth spending this much money on football, even if WSU is on such a bad losing streak for multiple years?

Pitch Number 1: Windstorms on the Westside

Two people were killed on the west side of Washington in windstorms Saturday. One was a 10-year old girl in Federal Way and the other was a 38-year old man in Gig Harbor. Both were killed by falling trees and both have not yet to have their names released. The goal of the story would be to cover a record breaking windstorm, examine the sort of dangers it holds, and then contrast with the issues going on within the state right now as well. Between the issues with wildfires in central Washington and the low air quality in eastern Washington, Washington State could be considered in a state of emergency. Discussion of the long term issues that these wild weather patterns could have, as well as the immediate damage that they create, could prove have a good angle for a story.

The fact that there deaths involved in this also helps sell the story, as it means that there will be public interest around the situation already. A chance to talk to experts and gathering information about how common these sorts of windstorms are, asking about why they happen and if this is a sign of things to come. People during these time will naturally want more information, and as such this would be a good point of time to jump in with information for them.
